This is beautiful and ironic. The book fair is given an outsized level of importance in students' lives early on.
There are perfect justifications as to why you don't get the books from there...the books are easily digested and serve no purpose after the first two reads. You can get the books used or from the library.
The book fair, at first, is a luxury and then becomes a privilege after you get items each time it rolls around.
Yet, when you are a kid there are some lessons that can be learned later in life. I wrestle with the book fair even now, but I am trying to heal the inner-child, until my daughter healed the little boy in me for me.
