The problem with whiteness, at its core, is that it is fleeting. Irish were not white when they first came to America. Irish were not white until they were white. Same with Italians. Gay “white” men constantly have their whiteness questioned. It used to be only men who owned land were afforded whiteness. The only question will whiteness expand or contract…I mean other than why do white people need a slur used for black people.
